Hey all, sorry…this is long. I warned you. I had a friend reach out and ask what exactly our fundraising is for. In her home state, all adoption expenses and legal fees are paid for…in Michigan, that is not the case. We will end up paying between $22,000 and $25,000 as long as there are no extra legal court fees from the father fighting for custody or anything. None of this is going toward our after adoption costs… We have paid just under $1,000 already. As we start our home study and then as it comes to a close we will have about $8,000 due in the next 2 months and then between $14,000-$16,000 due at “Placement”.
Fundraising is hard. There is no other word for it. I’m basically begging our village for money and hoping they don’t hate me for it. I’ve learned that I just need to keep “the golden rule” at the forefront of my mind as I put this out there. So here we are… we basically set goals of $1,000 along the way and hope to make it to each one. We assume that we will need to pay for a majority of the adoption costs, but even if we can raise $5,000, we figure then that’s $5,000 less we are paying out of our savings/emergency fund.
I know my constant posts and pleads can’t be enjoyable. I’ll admit…it’s not my favorite thing either. All I keep thinking about is how excited I am to share with our daughter the long list of names of people who helped bring her into our home.We are so excited to bring her home. Her story started so long ago and I can’t wait to see how God brings it to completion! Sorry to be so longwinded…can you tell I’m excited/passionate/anxious…all the feels!
